mirroring elements has been a long (oftentimes, overused) trend in illustrations, usually to depict a point or to emphasize strong characterization / visual clues.
i made this vector illustration. (supposedly for junn, but as i’m still scouting for printers willing to print them into a tshirt, i realized it was too girly, and probably won’t suit his boyish charms. haha) I think this artwork was inspired by the resurgence of all things driven by the 80’s huge-hair/disco era and japanesey characters, yet i tried to deviate from anything anime-ish.. (Yes, i can’t draw anime-styled stuff to save my life.) I’m glad it still came out with an Oomph.

Today, I had the pleasure of dipping my hands into Illustrator. God knows I’ve never ever touched illustrator for prolonged periods of time. And I’ve always loved drawing in flash, so Illustrator never really came up in my list of favorite drawing tools in the past. So.. for a first time -artwork, aided by online tutorials this is what i came up with :) Yey. Yahoo.

This was a little artwork i made while waiting for Wilbert in our resident Starbucks area, in Pasong Tamo, Makati. I love that place. I love it that Dacs (my barista) knows exactly what I want. Although some might say Starbucks coffee is overrated, for me, it still has that homey feel that I come back to.
SO, I made this artwork about how slowly society is being molded into one mainstream culture, with every big business monopolizing people’s choices, it’s hard to manufacture new ideals, new wants and new needs. It’s a rather controversial thought, but I made my execution simple and cute for people to view. Clicky!

my contest entry to mailmeart.com
This entry explores the asian belief that the world once rested on top of a turtle. I drew inspiration from it, and tried to illustrate the effects of suggestive ‘pre-destiny’. I also tried to incorporate the irony in it- the blissful contentment that comes with everything predestined in life, and the chaos that comes with the continuous search for pouring meaning into identity.

medium: mixed media

I asked Junn out of the blue one day how his perfect world would look like. He beams up to me with the remark that he wanted pandas frolicking freely in the wild. So i gave him this during one of our little monthly celebrations. He was ecstatic! The print out is now framed in his room. I drew this using flash, then colored in photoshop. I had several panda “drafts” on scratch papers first before drawing.

Meet Ashley and Haiden. Haiden also has an Evil twin. This was for a flash animation I did a few years back. And although the animation was a bit horrid, I must say I really enjoyed executing them through drawing.
