New Theme for this Portfolio Site, Currently Brewing
08.31.07

Hi Friends,
I realized that the time for updating has come once again :)
I’ve been so enthralled by blogging, that I now want to use the platform for almost all sites that I maintain. I will be working on editing a WP Theme once again for everyone’s viewing pleasure. My target launch will be Monday, September 3, 2007.

Oh by the way, I’m celebrating my 1st Year of Employment at the Design People by September 13, 2007. Yay!

I made a meet.camille blog about fashion, dating and my escapades.
08.13.07

Hi everyone,
I’m writing today to promote my 2nd blog installment for this year - entitled MEET.CAMILLEDELROSARIO.COM. Things have been great design wise - so I’m just making this out of the sheer fun of it. I have a blog packed with:

  • exciting make up tips
  • fashion suggestions, tips, what nots
  • restaurant escapades, gimmick places (coming soon)

So I hope you all visit some time when you have the time. I had fun editing this wordpress template ( I guess it gave me more liberty since it was a minimalist’s layout) And.. as usual, I indicated the url of the base template designer to give credit where it is due. Much Cheers.

*Note: I also updated this blog’s CSS - to highlight my header tagline (because i think it is a pretty interesting tag line and it needs to be noticed) As well as my title font size. Hmm. I think it refreshes the page a bit. Although, I will still forever fancy small text :X

Graphika Manila | Artists up for collaboration wanted!
08.13.07

Last Saturday, we attended the famed Graphika Manila 2007 - an international multimedia conference featuring local and foreign artists from cross media specializations. I found asylum particularly interesting, very awesome and hip artworks. Cheers to Mr. Steve Tirona as well, I really love his photography :) I like it that he adds his personal touch of surrealism to the glossy print media - as well as other outputs.

More about Graphika Manila found in Ricky’s blog
(because I have yet to upload the photos of this year’s event)

Early this morning, I was invited to be a guest at a local channel called UNTV - a very unconventional channel which houses their studio - in a *drumroll* a house.

I was part of their morning segment which tackled arts and music. Pretty fun. I plugged this website for any interested artists who would like to create collaborative artworks and what nots. I’m so glad that I got invited! Thanks to Mr. Rodel Flordeliz, I really appreciate my 10 minutes of fame.

(Oh goodie. Apparently I’m one of those few people who actually look thin on tv. I love it already!)

Me and a bunch of friends are hoping to host an exhibit sometime soon. Hopefully this pans out well. I’m so excited to paint again and flex my artistic muscles.

I wanna watch this:An Independent film, a tribute to Graphic Designers,Typographers and a Global Visual Culture
05.24.07

Helvetica Film
in the spirit of being artistic and die hard fan of typographer David Carson, as well as a fan of type faces in General , Especially Helvetica ( a font derived from the Swiss. A font with the right texture, an ounce of reservation, finesse and moderation spelled all over it’s san-serif goodness. Much like the way I remember the swiss people)

I wanna watch it. I hope theres an online version somewhere, even snippets of it would be nice somehow. -.- Too bad I’m all the way here in Manila, sounds like the premiere takes place in some fancy places in the US.

UPDATE! Lucky me.
Because of the internet, i found clips from youtube to satisfy my geeky type-hungry craving. Here we go! (more…)

Creative Freedom…Take As Much as You Want…

I love that CS3 tagline. Truly, this software breaks borders seamlessly. Imagine integration that we only imagined a few years back, and now its a reality. I absolutely love all the new features of Photoshop - the smart filters, better tricks with vector smart objects, amazing cross software functionality. With photoshop, you can now leap into other programs as if you were visiting the next door neighbor. Aftereffects also turned out to be a real beauty (although i would have to view more online tutorials before I get to master it’s touch). The 3d Integration is just wonderful as well, It left me in AWE after knowing that Photoshop isn’t merely a 2d platform anymore.

After listening to all the wonderful speakers, I felt that positive vibe in the room. People were raring to go back to their offices, try things out, experiment.People were actually challenged to try new things, to sift through creative juices and create something. And that, to me, was priceless.
I feel so loved.
Adobe and Macromedia’s union is bringing beautiful things for it’s users - and almost guarantees beautiful output, too, since it saves mounds of time and effort spent on what once were conceived as herculean tasks.
Of course, On the other side of the spectrum, the implications bothered me. I was saying…

Wait a minute! Stop right there Missy! Not everyone can be a graphic designer!
… Well, but photoshop just does exactly that. Everyone can be a graphic designer. Or a print maker or a web designer. Or a video person. What once was called Multimedia Arts was now becoming a norm.

Photoshop democratizes design to a different level wherein people without any art background at all (or no drawing skills for that matter) can deliver almost the same kind of output as people with previous conventional training. AND then i thought, hmm.. that was what drew people towards multimedia arts graduates - - - because they were expected to have that undying thirst to learn and deliver, across programs, regardless of the output.

Then, I ask.. Will this really matter? Is talent and creativity relative also to each individual, and could it be possibly replicated with the help of a few software tricks? Along with the loss of possible specialization in particular arenas, Aren’t we going to see a loss in the kind of out put that we deliver? Is this change too fast
paced for a society that’s probably not yet ready for it?

Hmm. It bothers me because not everyone should have the privilege of being called a graphic designer or an artist. A kid who slaps digital photos into his blog shouldn’t be called a photographer. In the same time, a kid who doodles and puts in photoshop filters shouldn’t be called an artist.

THE bottom line is, along with the democratization of design, also brings forth, to a certain degree, the loss of purposeful design. –.– Design that I’m sure me and my colleagues will strive hard to achieve, for years on end.

I’m not one to rally for a cause, but if I was to start, then I’ll start with design.
Art & Design has always been my lover, unknowingly, ever since I was three years old. Ever since I started drawing that Lion drawing, I knew that I wasn’t going to see myself doing something else when I grow up. I wasn’t going to be cooped up in a boxy suit, I wasn’t going to be analyzing reports…. I was going to deliver my art and broadcast it so others can use it.

What is it with artists and those darn vivid dreams?
04.22.07

Well, I’m writing this entry as a response to the overwhelming dreams I’ve been having in the past few months. Sometimes, they come in jolts - with themes, with episodes ranging from lust, anger, pain, sadness. Sometimes my dreams are too vivid that I feel like I’m watching a digital movie in real time.

blog to feed hungry souls?

Blogging.

Well, actually i didn’t ride on the bandwagon just because it became hip all of a sudden. I used to blog using the (back then) primitive xanga which probably had a fraction of the functionality and ease of use we now enjoy in wordpress, livejournal or blogger.

taken from ssc.edu.ph I heard about blogging through Sir Allan Rono who, at that time, was the famed Atenean guy who taught young catholic schoolgirls how to debate. At that time, He probably thought i was a weakling because I gave weak speeches, I was frantic, I was a mess. (Well, I still am a mess, In a sort of more like-able manner.) I later realized that the taste of debating in highschool was a far cry from the reality that college offered. It was a ‘tweetums’ period, where people liked hearing you because of good rhetoric - most of the time, we were judged according to manner and not depth of content.

So, years after ranting about boys, highschool and baduy music of the 90’s era, I transferred to Livejournal. I think the move was done in 2002 or 2003. Then the soap opera commenced, I was a ravenous blogger, eager to fill in my internet void with my speech. I updated the blog with rants about college, dating, make-up, etc.

Of course, there came the fights of so called boyfriends who got upset each
time I would disclose my thoughts.Of course, there were countless moments of self pity, debate musings, philosophical musings and existential angst. Generally speaking, blogging helped me developed my skills as a thinker. I analyzed books, I talked about anything and everything. There would be dry spells, but all in all, I wouldn’t let 2 weeks pass without posting an entry. Even a short one.

Yesterday, I found out that my office was flocked by the blogging prowess of Ms. Liz Buenaflor , Richmond, and Ric. Wow. I thought. Some of these people actually even earn from their blogs. Their blogs are optimized for search engines.

————————————————————————————————–

Wow. Liz’ website has been updated to grey goodness. I love this new grey, i find it yummy indeed.

liz

Richmond has a different take on it. Lots of ads, Lots of content:

And Lastly, I also saw project manila - another artsy officemate ( the white! I lovve it!)

projmanila

Well, I hope one day i would have the patience, goodwill and cheer to update my blogs as often as I should.
To profit from it.. Hmm. I don’t know yet. Maybe i’m just a lazy ass. Maybe its a tad bit philosophical for me.

Blogging, its nature and its predestination in my head, has always been about sharing information for nothing in return. Venting out angst. A technologically - driven process of catharsis. I mean, we all have day jobs - in its very essence and form, we are in some cosmic way - a sell out to capitalism. It makes me beg the question of whether profiting from your blog is another intrusion to this little space that I call my sanctuary from the capitalist constructs of society.

Hmmm. I hope to find out soon. I’m keeping this blog semi-personal as of now. I don’t think i have a lot of visitors just yet. I like posting my works and showcasing them. Thats about it. Hehehe.

I almost forgot that i actually submitted my old site to screenalicious. I stumbled upon it in google. (Awww. ) I only got 2 stars, because, well because the old site did seem pretty bland. But it was pretty neat to say the very least.

but looking back at it now, i’d say that it almost seems anemic. (Pop in ferrous sulfate pills, why don’t ya’ ) I resubmitted this updated site again, hoping for better things.

Oh. And my old site already got terminated. Phoey. I didn’t even receive an email that my payments were past due.

Ps. I love the way this screenalicious site used the font Trajan Pro. Kudos to the tasteful use of Serifs!

the graphic design experience? (xposted in my old blog 12.11.06)

From wikipedia:

Graphic design is a form of visual communication using text and/or images to present information, or promote a message. The art of graphic design embraces a range of cognitive skills and crafts including typography, image development and page layout. Graphic design is applied in communication design and fine art. Like other forms of communication, graphic design
often refers to both the process (designing) by which the communication is created, and the products (designs) such as creative solutions, imagery and multimedia compositions. Graphic design is traditionally applied to static media, such as books, magazines and brochures. Additionally, since the advent of computers, graphic design is utilised in electronic media - often referred to as interactive design, or multimedia design.

One of the keywords I would like to highlight is the two famed words - visual communication. This catch phrase has been tagged to mean a lot of things - expression, passing of a certain message, a tangible value, an impending cause - all of these things may be transmitted through the use of graphic design.

But, I must also note that Graphic design is constantly expanding in its definition - it is not limited only to anything visual, it now engages users into a different experience of connectivity.

What we are seeing now is the practice of graphic design within the Philippines transforming itself into a more progressive, innovative and cultural movement. Why is this so? And why does it seem to be happening in such a rapid speed?
